For Citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada

Canada Student Loan Program

The University is approved by the Government of Canada and is listed under the CanLearn Master Designated List (MDL). As a result, students can apply for grants and loans under the Canada Student Loan Program.

Additionally, applicants to the College of Medicine may apply for the Medical Professional Student Line of Credit at any Canadian Bank or financial institution for their studies at International American University.

We offer a number of scholarship programs to recognize outstanding performance of applicants in various fields. Some scholarships are awarded based on student type (new or continuing) and program type (College of Medicine or Premedical). Scholarships are competitive and funds are limited, eligible students are encouraged to apply as early as possible in the semester. Applicants may download the respective scholarship application forms and submit them along with application materials to the Office of Student Services. All applications and supporting documentation must be received at least 30 days prior to the start of classes.

Please note there is no guarantee of a scholarship and the number of scholarships awarded per semester may vary. All scholarship decisions are final and are not open to appeal. Questions regarding the scholarship application process may be directed to the Director of Student Services.

Outstanding Academic Excellence Scholarship

  • Limited scholarships are awarded to students who have maintained academic excellence.
  • A grant of up to $2,000 per semester covering all semesters of the Basic Sciences in the medical program will be awarded to those students with an undergraduate GPA of at least a 3.7 or higher. The grant does not include room, board, transportation and educational supplies
  • Students must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress and maintain a 3.0 each semester to continue eligibility

Academic Excellence Scholarship

  • Limited scholarships are awarded to students who have maintained academic excellence.
  • A grant of up to $1,500 per semester covering all semesters of the Basic Sciences in the medical program will be awarded to those students with an undergraduate GPA of at least a 3.3 or higher.
  • The grant does not include room, board, transportation and educational supplies
  • Students must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress and maintain a 3.0 each semester to continue eligibility

U.S. Military Veterans Grant

  • A grant of $500 per semester covering all semesters of the Basic Sciences of the medical program will be awarded to U.S. military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed forces on active duty, either currently or with an honorable discharge.
  • All applicants must provide a completed application along with a DD214 form confirming eligibility
  • The grant does not include room, board, transportation and educational supplies
  • Students must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress each semester to continue eligibility

Medical Professional Recognition Grant

  • A grant of $500 tuition credit per semester, covering all semesters of the Basic Sciences will be awarded to certified EMT’s, Paramedics, LVNs and RN’s in the US or Canada.
  • The grant does not include room, board, transportation and educational supplies
  • All applicants must provide a completed application along with proof of current certification/licensure
  • Students must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress each semester to continue eligibility

Saint Lucian Tuition Grant

  • A limited number of Saint Lucian Tuition Grants are available only to Saint Lucian citizens currently enrolled in the MD program. One 100% tuition grant is available each semester, per program (College of Medicine and College of Arts and Sciences) which is awarded on a first come, first-served basis. Applications will be reviewed on an individual basis and the scholarship committee will select an applicant who has displayed strong academic excellence and community and volunteer service
  • The tuition reduction grant will cover the four terms  of Basic Sciences and Pre-Medical only
  • All other enrolled Saint Lucian citizens can qualify for a 50% tuition reduction (Basic Sciences only)
  • The grant does not cover room, board, transportation or education supplies
  • Students must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress each semester to continue eligibility
  • IAU cannot guarantee clinical placement in the United States and applicants are subject to US Immigration laws if they wish to complete rotations in the United States

CARICOM Tuition Reduction Grant

  • IAU is pleased to promote the career ambitions of students from CARICOM member states and associate member states by offering a special tuition grant (http://caricom.org/jsp/community/member_states.jsp?menu=community)
  • All applicants must submit an application along with a copy of their passport, birth paper/certificate , and proof of current address
  • Applicants who have taken college-level coursework in the US or Canada are ineligible for this grant
  • College of Medicine- a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75 is required to qualify for this grant*
  • CARICOM citizens who are accepted will receive a 30% grant off their tuition cost. The tuition reduction grant does not include room, board, transportation or educational supplies
  • The tuition reduction grant will cover the four terms of Basic Sciences only
  • Students must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress and maintain a 3.0 GPA each semester to continue eligibility

African Student Tuition Reduction Grant

  • IAU is pleased to promote the career ambitions of students from African countries by offering a special tuition grant
  • All applicants must submit an application along with a copy of their passport, birth paper/certificate , and proof of current address
  • Applicants who have taken college-level coursework in the US or Canada are ineligible for this grant
  • College of Medicine- a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75 is required to qualify for this grant*
  • African citizens who are accepted will receive a 20% grant off their tuition cost. The tuition reduction grant does not include room, board, transportation or educational supplies
  • The tuition reduction grant will cover the four terms of Basic Sciences only
  • Students must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress and maintain a 3.0 GPA each semester to continue eligibility

Please Note: All required documents, if originally in a foreign language, must be accompanied by a notarized English translation. All transcripts documenting post-secondary coursework completed in institutions outside the United States or Canada must also be evaluated by an approved international credential evaluation service.
