Dr. Paul Cherian has a long history of involvement in medical education, as professor, Academic Dean, Executive Dean and Provost in the United States, United Kingdom and the Caribbean countries, spanning more than 4 decades. He is one of the early promoters of Case-based education in medical settings. He is currently an active member at International American University College of Medicine as the Emeritus Executive Dean. He is a Board- Certified Psychiatrist by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
He brings with him a wealth of clinical experience in the field of Psychiatry, as a private practitioner, early promotor of Correctional Psychiatry in the United States, and as an academic advisor. His early experience as a physician and surgeon in developing countries have helped him in setting realistic goals in various professional settings. He had been very active as a Certified Clinical Examiner by the American Board of Clinical Examiners.
His special assignments include; Governor’s task force on Establishment of Uniform Sentencing Guidelines Il, Committee on Coordination of Benefits Program (COBRA) legislation in IL, (Health Insurance and Employment), Federal Court Appointed Monitor for Psychiatric Services in Statesville Prisons, IL, Co-Chairman on the Committee to establish Guidelines for treatment in Correctional Settings by American Psychiatric Association and Committee on Revision of Mental Health Code IL -1992. He has received many awards in the areas of ‘Most Valuable Teacher’ and ‘Most Innovative Programs’. Currently he is the Chairman of the Commission on Protection of Minors, SyroMalabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago, a nation-wide organization.
