The International American University College of Medicine (IAU) and Tapion Hospital, Castries have entered into a partnership to offer medical students a chance to complete their ‘Introduction to Clinical Medicine’ program (ICM) in Saint Lucia. Under this affiliation, the students now have the opportunity to make use of the stellar facilities and doctors of Tapion hospital to apply the knowledge they have garnered from their study at the University to clinical practice.
Up until the partnership this program was conducted in the USA, however this association between IAU and Tapion changes that. Medical students now have the opportunity to experience medicine as practiced in Saint Lucia, first hand. It will also help them sharpen their skills and clinical acumen by interacting with the finest doctors in the country. “This partnership marks the beginning of an important phase in the life of IAU”, said Mr. Manmadhan Nair, President of IAU. “This association between Tapion and us provides our students with an amazing opportunity to observe and learn from the very best and I hope that in the coming years, this association extends further beyond this program”, he added.
The Tapion Hospital is one of the top hospitals in the island with the largest accredited private laboratory in the Eastern Caribbean that offers a wide range of diagnostic investigations. It is also the only private hospital in the Eastern Caribbean Region, and the only hospital in the O.E.C.S (Organization of Eastern Caribbean States) accredited by Accreditation Canada International.
This new relationship between IAU and Tapion is another step by IAU to interact and assimilate more in to the community in which it operates and only just another chapter in their continued efforts towards it.
