Fifty-four new students were inducted into IAU College of Medicine on Friday, September 10, 2010 at the Fifteenth White Coat Ceremony. The students were presented their white coats and stethoscopes by IAU faculty as a symbol of beginning their medical career. Students were then led in a Medical Student Oath which mirrors the Hippocratic Oath which will be taken after graduation from medical school. Special guest Honourable Dr. Keith Mondesir, St. Lucian Minister of Health attended the event and challenged the new students to take their new given responsibility very seriously as they begin their medical careers. Students were also encouraged by several other speakers including: Dr. Jayant Mohite, Dean of Basic Sciences; Dr. Alan Wabrek, Executive Dean; Drs. Olusina Adesanya, James Villanueva, Raghavendra Pillippa, IAU Faculty members; Diedra Joseph, 4th semester student; and Kristina Cancro, 1st semester student. The momentous event was led by Masters of Ceremonies Priyank Desai, Pari Nakrani and Annika Kapoor. Members of the local medical community as well as IAU faculty, staff, students and parents attended the event as well.
