We had the privilege of being visited by one of our alumni, Dr. Glenn Oriaifo on January 20, 2017. Dr. Oriaifo graduated in 2015 and is now doing his residency in Psychiatry at Carilion Clinic – Virginia Tech School of Medicine.
Though the purpose of his visit was purely for a much needed break and to show his friend the picturesque beaches and mountains in Saint Lucia, Dr. Oriaifo took time out to speak with the MS2 students about his experiences while doing his Basic Science courses on the island. He was nostalgic in remembering his first semester courses and how he strived to develop good study habits. He looked back at how he helped organize and set up the African Student Association and later on becoming an active mover in the Christian Fellowship Association. He also narrated his journey in successfully completing USMLE Steps 1-3 and eventually passing the Nigerian Medical licensure exam. Moreover, he never forgot to mention his batch mates who have matched and are doing their residency now. Dr. Oriaifo had nothing but good words to say about his professors at IAU. He encouraged the students to stay motivated in studying and never to lose focus. He certainly inspired many students that afternoon to work for their goals and aspirations in serving as a physician in the future.
