College of Medicine at a Glance
Year Founded: 2003

Course of Study: Students complete the four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program between Saint Lucia and the United States. They complete the basic sciences curriculum on the island of Saint Lucia. Since the College of Medicine operates on a year round schedule, students can complete their pre-clinical courses in twenty months. They then transition to the United States to complete the clinical sciences at the clinical campus located in Baltimore, Maryland, U.S. All rotations at the clinical campus are offered in teaching hospitals with ACGME accredited residency programs.

Progressive Curriculum: Based on the curriculum of top U.S. medical schools, our curriculum centers on problem-based teaching methods and case studies, allowing students to take an active role in the learning process.

5:1 Low student-to-faculty ratio: Maintaining a low ratio maximizes students’ one-on-one time with professors and allows for a faculty that is available and dedicated to our students.

Correlated Clinical Experience in the Basic Sciences: From the first semester onward, students begin working with patients at supervised local clinics.

Clinical Skill Preparation: Students develop their clinical skills through the use high-fidelity simulators on campus as well as a strong standardized patient program, and use of the physical diagnosis lab.

USMLE Step 1 Preparation: IAU students are fully prepared for Step 1 through Shelf Exams (NBME) at the end of each semester in the Basic Sciences as well as biweekly exams which are formatted to mirror the USMLE. Students also pursue intensive preparation for the USMLE during the bridge term of the program and complete the NBME Comprehensive Basic Sciences Examination (CBSE) prior to sitting for Step 1

Clinical Rotations at Hospitals approved by the ACGME: Clinical rotations are available at our clinical campus in Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.

Affordable Tuition: Our lower tuition allows students to gain a quality medical education for a reasonable cost.

Financial Aid: Scholarships, payment options and loans are available based upon need, academic performance, and professional background.

Safe and Comfortable Living Conditions: Saint Lucia is one of the most beautiful, safe, and affordable islands in the Caribbean. IAU assists students in finding housing near campus before they arrive on the island.

Pre-Medical Program at IAU College of Arts & Sciences: Students can complete all the required pre-medical courses at IAU College of Arts & Sciences, allowing high school students to obtain an MD in six short years instead of the traditional eight.
