Residency

Once you graduate with a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from IAU College of Medicine, you must participate in the National Residency Match Program and match into a speciality that you intend to practice. The length of residency program can vary from 3 to 5 years depending on the type of speciality chosen. Successful completion of an ACGME approved Residency Program is a requirement for physician licensing in every state of the US. Residency programs place huge weightage to USMLE Step 1 & 2 scores. Passing the USMLE in the first attempt is also very important for a successful match. Research Publications and Post graduate degrees in medical related fields can increase the overall chance of getting accepted into a residency program.

Our Office of Registrar provides specialized services for assisting students with the residency match process. We can guide you through the process and help you understand the match process.  Sound understanding of state licensing regulations is required to satisfy requirements for clinical and post graduate training for subsequent licensure. Various state licensing requirements may be found at www.fsmb.org Please contact Ms. Anjana Nair at anjana@iau.edu.lc or 972-919-5150 for more information on services available to our students for assistance with ERAS, NRMP and ECFMG certification.
