Student/Faculty Quiz 'Man, Medicine & Mankind'

February 26, 2009 12.00 PM

The IAU Quiz on Man, Mankind and Medicine was held last February 26, 2009. Four highly energetic teams participated mostly composed of students with one member from the staff in each team. Dr. Ratnakar gave a rousing welcome and opened the friendly competition. Dr. David Keyes, the over-all-in charge, also acted as the quiz master. The theme of the quiz was ‘MAN, MEDICINE, MANKIND, and the questions were loosely based on medical trivia, so all could share in what turned out to be a two hour exciting intellectual contest.

The judging panel, composed of three senior faculty members, was hard pressed to decide on points awarded and the accuracy of the often hilarious answers to a posed question. As points were awarded for a correct response, points were as well deducted for an incorrect response, and at the end of the quiz, it was open as to which team would challenge for first place, and which team would be awarded a ‘negative’ last place.

The team of Sacha, Zia, Saad, Smita and Sibi emerged as champions and received the top prize donated by the IAU faculty. It is seen that such an event will hopefully be included with each new semester beginning, as the camaraderie displayed and team spirit enjoyed, made this event an educational experience for all concerned.
